How I got into this
I spent about seven years working on other people’s Chicago moving crews before I ever ran my own. I loaded trucks in July heat off Lake Shore Drive and carried couches up greystone back stairs in February when the steps were sheet ice. I learned the city the hard way: which buildings have a freight elevator and which make you take the one passenger car, which blocks off the Kennedy you can actually park a 26-footer on, how the whole town seems to move on May 1 and again on October 1.
What bugged me on those crews was how slow everything was. You would call a company and wait two days for a callback, then wait around on moving day for a truck that showed up late. So when I started Chicago Speedee Movers in 2014, I built it around one idea: be fast where it counts. Answer the phone. Quote it the same day, usually within the hour. Lock the price in writing. Show up on time and move efficiently, and do not let a Chicago winter be an excuse for a slow, sloppy job.
What we are today
We run nine trucks and about sixteen full-time, uniformed movers, all W-2 employees on my payroll, not day labor and not subcontractors. We do not hand your move to anyone else. The crew that meets you in the Loop or in Wrigleyville is my crew, and they load it, drive it, and unload it themselves. Gina has run my office since 2015, Marcus handles estimates and dispatch, and Danny, Sean, and Trey lead the crews on the trucks.
