Local Moving in Chicago & Chicagoland

Same-day and next-day slots across the city and suburbs: quoted fast, priced flat.

Most Chicago moves don’t fail because of distance — they fail because of stairs, street parking, and a crew that shows up an hour late. Chicago Speedee Movers runs nine of our own trucks and about sixteen full-time, W-2 movers, so when you call we can usually quote you within the hour and put a named crew on your calendar for the same day or the next one.

We move studios in Logan Square, three-flats in Avondale, Gold Coast condos, and full houses out in the suburbs, and we hand you a flat written price before anyone touches a box.

  • Licensed & insured — US DOT/MC & an Illinois ICC household-goods license
  • Flat-rate written quotes, no hidden fees
  • Our own uniformed crews & trucks

From a Lakeview vintage walk-up to a Bridgeport bungalow, the job is the same on our end: an employed crew, a clean truck loaded with blankets and dollies, and a clock that doesn’t pad. We don’t subcontract your move out to a stranger. Vince’s movers load it, drive it, and unload it themselves. That’s the whole point of how we built this.

Pricing is simple. Pick an hourly crew if your move is quick and predictable, or lock a flat band if you’d rather know the number up front. Either way the estimate is written, and the blankets, dollies, and basic tools are already in the truck, not a surprise line later.

Neighborhoods we run every week

Most of our local volume sits inside the city and the inner ring, and the access tricks change block to block:

  • The Loop, River North, Streeterville: high-rises with COIs, dock windows, and tight freight elevators.
  • Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Wicker Park: vintage walk-ups with narrow back stairs and no elevator.
  • Logan Square, Avondale, Bucktown: three-flats and greystones, permit-zone parking off Milwaukee and Western.
  • Andersonville, Edgewater, Rogers Park: older condos and two-flats up near the lake.

What a Chicago local move actually costs

Two ways to book. The hourly rate covers a truck plus crew; the flat bands below are typical ranges by home size for a standard city or near-suburb move.

Home size Typical flat range Hourly option
Studio $380 – $620 $149/hr for 2 movers + truck
$199/hr for 3 movers + truck
1-bedroom $620 – $1,000
2-bedroom $1,050 – $1,650
3-bedroom $1,750 – $2,700
4-bed house $2,500 – $3,800

A $129 deposit locks your date and comes straight off the total. Standard coverage is $0.60/lb released value; full-value protection is available if you want it.

Built for a Chicago winter

January doesn’t postpone a lease. We salt and tarp the path, wrap furniture against slush, and our crews know which one-ways near Western and Milwaukee will eat twenty minutes if you don’t plan the truck spot. We’ll also walk you through pulling a residential parking-permit zone hold so we’re not circling the block on move day.

What’s not included

Honest line on the things people assume are baked in but aren’t: city moving permits or guaranteed dock reservations (we’ll help you arrange them, but the building or the city issues them), specialty items like a piano or gun safe (from $399), and packing materials if you want us to box you up (that’s our full-pack service, from $420). Everything in the truck (pads, dollies, straps, wardrobe boxes on request) is covered.

What’s included

Everything our crew brings on move day — no add-ons, no surprises.

  • Our own truck plus a uniformed, full-time crew, never a subcontractor
  • Moving blankets, dollies, hand tools, and straps loaded and ready
  • Disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables, and standard furniture
  • A flat written price locked before we lift the first box
  • Salting, tarping, and winter-wrapping when the weather turns
  • Help arranging your permit-zone parking hold and elevator window

Common questions

How fast can you actually move me?
If you call early enough, often the same day, and next-day slots are routine. We answer the phone fast and usually have a written quote back to you within the hour, so you’re not waiting two days just to learn the price.
Hourly or flat rate — which should I pick?
Hourly ($149 for two movers, $199 for three) is best for quick, predictable moves like a studio or a one-bedroom with elevator access. A flat band is better when you want zero surprises. We’ll tell you honestly which one saves you money for your place.
Do you handle walk-ups and tight Chicago staircases?
Constantly. Three-flats, greystones, and vintage Lincoln Park and Lakeview walk-ups with narrow back stairs are most of what we do. We crew the job to the building so it stays on schedule instead of dragging on the clock.
Is the price on the estimate the price I pay?
Yes. We give you a written estimate before move day and the flat bands are binding for the home size and access we quoted. If something changes on your end, we tell you before we charge it. No quiet add-ons.
